The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
