Nigel Farage Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after securing a victory,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this negative culture.”
In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their unions for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
