Michael Jordan Tells Court He ‘Wasn’t Afraid’ of Nascar in Legal Battle
Michael Jeffrey Jordan, as he cordially introduced himself in a Charlotte court on Friday, stated that his drive to win and status as a newcomer motivated his push for 23XI Racing to confront Nascar over alleged violations of antitrust rules.

Jordan shared financial and corporate details of his racing venture, revealing he put in $40 million of his own funds into the Nascar Cup series team launched with business partner Curtis Polk and longtime driver Denny Hamlin.
“It fell to someone to act,” Jordan stated in the Charlotte courtroom. “As a newcomer, I wasn’t afraid. I believed I could take on Nascar in its entirety. From my perspective, the sport it needed to be looked at from a different view.”
The Core Dispute: Charter Agreements and Renewal Demands
The heart of the case involves the expiration of a 2016 deal where Nascar provided each team a franchise. The concept is similar to other major leagues with independent franchises, like the Charlotte Hornets or the NFL’s Panthers. The agreement was set to expire in 2024 when Nascar demanded teams renew their charters.

“Don’t do this to us,” Heather Gibbs said Joe Gibbs told Nascar’s leadership. She said France replied, “If I wake up and I have 20 charters, I have 20. If I have 30, I have 30.”
