Iran Reports Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.

Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
