The EU might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US against five European individuals involved in combating online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce legislation regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined France in condemning the move.
