The distinguished British actress Helen Mirren, previously holder of an Academy Award, multiple Bafta awards, Golden Globe wins, multiple Emmy accolades, plus a Tony, is poised to add another esteemed prize to her collection: the Cecil B DeMille Globes' lifetime achievement award.

Ceremony Details

Mirren, 80, formerly honored as a dame back in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will receive the accolade in a ceremony January 8, just prior to the main Golden Globes are held, within a program described by the Globes as the Golden Eve event.

This will also include the bestowal of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett award for small-screen contributions, the recipient of which remains unannounced. Previous recipients were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is a powerhouse performer, and her career is nothing short of remarkable,” said the organization’s president, the Globes’ leader. “Her brilliant portrayals and commitment to her craft persistently influence countless performers and fans too. It’s a tremendous privilege to present her with this lifetime achievement honor.”

Professional Journey

The star rose to fame in the 1970s with key roles in stage productions at London’s West End and with the RSC as well as in movies including O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her lead performance in the investigative show Prime Suspect increased her popularity further. Other important films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her role as Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen, a role she revisited during 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play concerning the sessions with the Queen and prime minister Margaret Thatcher, and for which she earned a Tony back in 2015.

• More recent films include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, which she narrated.
• Mirren’s turn in the Netflix version of The Thursday Murder Club has garnered acclaim and awards buzz is increasing around her performance as an ailing family head in Kate Winslet’s initial directorial project, Goodbye June.
• Upcoming, audiences will see Mirren as Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations are set to be revealed December 8, with the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners anticipated to be prominent.
