Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial World Series since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.

Behind 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now hit twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment except for Springer with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.

Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of the series," he continued.

Toronto won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
