Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
